rivermaya and pinikpikan rock!

i just arrived home from a concert my org (tapat) organized for our 19th year anniversary. it featured both bands, and i have to say, hands down ako sa parehong banda. (thanks pala sa lahat ng pumunta! t'was a blast!)

i've heard of pinikpikan before pa but it was the first time i've ever heard them play (live or recorded). grabe! intense! filipino's should definitely be proud of this group. check out their website at www.pinikpikan.com. like what's stated there: free the mind, feel the vibes, groove with the spirits. naiiba kayo!

as for the legend, rivermaya brought back tons of mems... from those grade school days when you'd listen to their music going to school and after dismissal, humming their tunes from "214" to "elesee" (tama ba spelling? hehe) to "ulan"... to when bamboo left the group... up to now with "umaaraw, umuulan" and "balisong". i love balisong! no one from our generation can ever deny that no matter what new music or band comes along, rivermaya's music will always be part of us in one way or another.

rivermaya, apparently, is very different now from what it once was. the music is different, heck the group itself is different na. but i have to say, they still have it. that appeal, that charisma, that kind of crowd-drawing power that makes everyone still worship them up to now. from the looks on the faces of everyone who watched the concert kanina, tangina, you'll wonder how this group still manages to get that kind of adoration. to think the crowd was composed of a lot of freshmen, and when they were sikat (as in 90's sikat) these freshmen were like grade 3 or something. iba rin 'tong grupong 'to!

oh well. happy anniv ulit sa tapat!
