las piñas walkways

i've always been proud and happy to live in las piñas. this little city that feels sooo sub-urban yet modern really does make you feel at home and the whole lifestyle here definitely contributed to me and my siblings' upbringing. my friends from 'the north' have always referred to this city of mine as a probinsiya and i've always defended 'the south' by mentioning that at least we have trees and an airport and all they have are narrow, dirty streets and payatas. hehe.

the only things i hate about this city of mine actually are the city slogan: "las pinas: city of love and progress" (ang squatter talaga!), and the traffic along alabang-zapote road. i travel to and from makati or manila almost everyday and the whole area i have to travel along this friggin' road can add up 15 to 30 minutes of travel time depending on the hour. and once i get off this road, it can take me just 10 to 20 minutes to get to makati! meaning, half the time i spend traveling to makati or manila are the first 3 kilometers from my house. hay.

that's why i was so happy that the las piñas city government started constructing walkways on important intersections like zapote, philam, times and casimiro. but what made so much more happier was that these walkways have escalators and they actually look nice. being a commuter/pedestrian all the time really made me feel relieved. crossing the road (which i find more difficult than crossing taft ave.) won't be much of a hassle anymore and hopefully the traffic subsides a bit. and the fact that i only see walkways like these here (and makati) once again makes me feel proud to live in the city of love and progress. haha!
