my olympic frustrations

everday single day since the olympics started, i've been tuning in to nbn channel 4 to watch every event they show there. and i mean i really watch religiously from 9am 'til 12nn no matter what sport it is or what country is competing. kahit alam kong may magandang movie sa wowow channel, olympics pa rin pinapanood ko.

i've been a big fan of the olympics since 1992 when i watched that unforgettable opening ceremony in barcelona. the olympic cauldron, lit by an archer. amazing. kinakalibutan pa rin ako up to now whenever i think about how great that was. i was hooked since then. i watched atlanta, and sydney of course. hassle nga lang 'coz even though i've been watching athens, i missed the opening ceremony! aaaahh! of all olympic opening ceremonies to miss! i was in my spanish finals kasi when the opening ceremonies were being aired. oh well, may they show it again sometime.

anyway, i don't know exactly why i'm semi-obsessed with the games but what i do know is that watching the olympics is one of the few things that can make me cry.

laugh at me if you want, hindi ako nahihiya! hehe. when i was watching nga yung medal ceremonies for swimming, i couldn't help but shed a tear.

seeing those athletes wear their medals with wreaths on their heads.
knowing that they're proud of what they've achieved.
knowing that they've brought glory to their country.

haaay. swerte. i would love to experience something like that.

i've always wanted to be an athelete. as in yung pang-olympics na athelete. pero syempre i know na it's just something na i can't achieve in my life (ever) and i feel so frustrated about it. although i had a short experience as an athlete when i was part of the swimming varsity nung grade 7 ako and early 1st year high school, pero medyo lang diba, mag-iisang dekada na 'yun! although i credit it to that experience of mine kung bakit i keep on watching the olympics, especially swimming.

the thrill of competing... the adrenaline... the cheers... the feeling is incomparable.

as i continue to watch the olympic games, from swimming to badminton, beach volleyball to fencing, gymnastics to boxing, basketball to diving (yes, i've watched events in all these sports), i will still go on and dream that one day, i would be competing in an olympic swimming final.

i swim the last lap, touch that wall, raise my head from the water, look up and check the results on the screen above me, and see my name...

...with the word gold written beside it.

ps.

tapos dagdag pa dun, mas ok din kung makita ko na silver si michael phelps tapos bronze si ian thorpe. haha! dream on. (sa lahat na hindi kilala si michael phelps at ian thorpe, kayo na bahala mag check kung sino sila)
