procrastination

i can never seem to learn this lesson: never proscratinate. my dad first taught me this when i was a kid, during the time when i couldn't even pronounce the word 'procrastinate' properly. a decade and a few years after, the lesson is still very much applicable.

i've been delaying myself in doing some stuff that i should have started doing months ago and now, as right now, the effects are starting to sink in.

procrastination # 1: compre
my comprehensive exam, or 'compre' in short, in microeconomics is this saturday already. compre is an exam every eco major must take, and pass, for him or her to graduate. it's like a mini-board exam and the coverage is everything you took up in that subject. and take note, you have to answer only one question out of three so you'll never know exactly what the test will be about. there are three exams that one must pass, a different subject per exam. luckily enough, i've passed two already during my first take which was last term so i have one exam left: microeco. and let me just stress this point: there are still students who entered la salle as far back as 1998 who haven't passed all their compre exams yet. as the eco department would say it: "the compre isn't a matter of life and death. it's worse than that."

so... today is wednesday. the exam is on saturday. i haven't even lifted a page from the two textbooks i have to read, cover to cover.

procrastination # 2: thesis
i've had months and months to start working on my thesis. and yet even if the deadline is this november 8 already, i've only met up with my adviser once and the last time i ever revised my draft was august. although i can have myself deferred for another term, i still have to prove to my adviser that i'm worthy of deferrment. and that means to work, and i mean visibly work, on my thesis.

so... i have a good two weeks and a half to read a ream of new research papers that i just printed out and published articles with greek letters that i still don't understand up to now. not to mention to review the old articles i've already read which is about a ream and a half. oh yeah, i still have those two textbooks to read for compre, cover to cover.

procrastination # 3: org duties
this one is where i feel the worst (i think my priorities in school are obvious). i've done nothing substantial so far since the second term started. and i mean nothing. oh yeah, i'm the head of the org by the way. so now, my org has to implement like a dozen activities by the end of november, which includes an out-of-town teambuilding seminar, a forum with a senator, a week-long university-wide activity, training sessions for about a hundred various tapat people, the abolishment of an office of the admin (hehe), and initial preparations for the general elections next year. yes, work is delegated to other people, but i still have to think about these things. oh yeah, i still have to read two textbooks cover to cover and a ream of new research papers and articles plus old articles i've already read.

this is the worst for me 'coz unlike #'s 1 and 2, my procrastination in my org duties has emotionally and physically drained and enraged some people to whom i promised utmost dedication and support. and for all those who can relate, you know how bad that can feel. especially if you're the one who's being drained of your energy.

so... with all the readings i have to digest, with all the org duties i have to do, with all the 'paghahabol' ahead of me... there's something i've realized yet again:

never procrastinate.
