an officemate of mine just got hit by a car while riding his motorbike. it happened right in front of the main office driveway... at lunch hour! damn.

i didn't see it happen but i was one of the guys who spoke with the company doctor to ask him to go outside and take a look. you know what the doctor said? "i can't because it is outside. please bring him here".
hwaw! windang is the word. "i can't because it is outside" -- what an answer! feeling ko tuloy ako yung bobo. i felt like all the fruit in garden of eden fell to the ground and wanted to pull that long moustache from that indian doctor's face and drag him outside to take a look. me, another guy, and the security guard were collectively in shock as proven by the 5 seconds of complete silence and disbelief after that bloody response. he then proceeded to get a wheelchair from inside his clinic. the guard took it and the other guy left with the guard.
the guy who got hit is fine and is at the hospital now but i heard he bled profusely. gosh. he's from a different team but i had lunch with him once. weird feeling today. here's an e-mail that came out later in the day:
i have a feeling our company will have a new set of doctors next week.
traffic accidents are actually quite common here in malaysia. a friend of mine told me the country is in the top 10 list of countries with most traffic accidents in the world. i'm not the least bit surprised though. i commute everywhere i go and these stupid drivers do not, and i mean DO NOT, slow down when someone is crossing the road. cutting lanes and sudden brakes are common too. in banks, personal accident insurance policies are such a hot item that they have these posters with photos of real bodies which were run-over by trucks and cars! in the cinemas they have this public service advertisement showing a motorcylist get hit by a truck then they show the presumably dead guy flat on the road with blood flowing out from his body. it's not a real accident but how morbid can they be with these advertisements? i think i've had quite good training in crossing roads having studied along taft avenue for years but, man, dito challenged ako! i think this is one of the things i don't like here.
well, to talk about something more positive, GONG XI FAT CAI! happy chinese new year, in english. the nice thing about living in a country with three distinct sub-cultures (malay/muslim, chinese, indian) is that there are so many festive holidays! it's the turn for the chinese to celebrate now and in the office this morning, they were giving out little oranges. labo, but i don't say no to free food.
i'm quite excited too since i'll be going with a chinese friend of mine, a pinoy neighbor, her korean flatmate, and their indonesian officemate (truly asia kami!) to the chinese guy's hometown called ipoh, three hours away from where i live. oh diba. biyahe na! i have no idea what we'll be doing there but who cares, i think people should take every single opportunity to travel.
taking it from there, i've also noticed that i've been longing to do something lately: go out to clubs and bars. weird! back in the philippines, i would never be the one to initiate such a gimmick. pero dito, tigang to go out! kakaiba. pati ako surprised.
